Minister’s Death.——The death of tie Rev. W. Lay cock, a well-known Methodist minister, at the age of 69, is reported from Christchurch.—Press Association. Boy Drops Dead.—James O’Brien aged 12, while pushing a cycle up hill at Xelson Creek, Grevmouth. yesterday, dropped dead from heart failure. —Press Association. Maori Chief’s Funeral.—Ti • *:ri-»I of i Rangi Matatoro, chief of the # N # tiawa i tribe, at Matarikioki, near Waiiara, on Saturday afternoon, was a most impressive ceremony and was largely attended by both Maori and pakeha, ; states a Press Association message : from New Plymouth. Fire Threatens Timber Stacks-— A* grass fire at Onehunga threatened several stacks of timber in the Parker. Limb Company yards or; Saturday afternoon. The fire was put out by the Fire Bridgade. but not before some of the timber was charred. Labourer’s Leg Broken. John Barens, aged 73. a labourer, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital on Saturday suffering from a fractured • leg. Mr. Barens lives at 38’Grey Street. Newton. His condition this afternoon ' was reported as improving. Cross of Sacrifice.—A cross oi s i r - fiee, a beautiful memorial to soldiers of {New Plymouth who fell in the Great j War, presented by Mr. and Mrs. C. H. ! Burgess, was unveiled in the Tehenui ( Cemetery by Major-General R. Yount, officer commanding the New Zealand Forces, on Saturday in the presence 'of a large gathering. —Press Assn.
