HUNTLY CARNIVAL

CORONATION CEREMONY HUNTLY, Friday. The Huntly carnival was brought to a close on Thursday evening by the crowning of the queen, Miss Florrie Brook, in the Town Hall. Preceding the coronation ceremony were ballets, marches, tableaux, patriotic songs and selections by the Huntly Silver Band, under Mr. T. Morgan, bandmaster. The whole of the second half of the programme was occupied by the coronation ceremonies under the supervision of Mr. Johnsonllill. The participants marched through the hall from the entrance doors to ! the stage, where the dais was erected, amid an appropriate setting of tasteful flag decorations. The ceremony was carried out with proper dignity and the characters faithfully portrayed. The usual “honours” were conferred by Her Majesty, some of them of local flavour, evoking warm pladuits from the assemblage. Mr. Harry Weadovvs 1 conducted with his usual musical j ability. Mr. A. Stewart, assisted by a i juvenile chorus, sang “Motherland,” and was favourably recived. Miss Mary Gray and Master Bryant also contributed vocal items. The committee responsible for the carnival and coronation have had a most strenuous period and the culminating of their combined efforts in the successful finale is to be commended, the lion's share falling on Mr. Len Green, secretary, Mr. A. Bright, treasurer, with Mr. E. George as chairman of the carnival. It is the intention of the committee to repeat the coronation ceremony in the near future, possibly before the holidays. The principal characters were as follows: Queen of the Carnival, Miss Fltfrrie Brook (Blue Princess); Britannia, Miss Nellie Balcke; Mistress of the Robes, Miss Molly Meagher; Queen’s Pages, Daphne Brooks, Annie Brook, Aileen Whittaker, and Lily Alder; Colour Bearer, Geo. Whittaker: Standard Bearers. James Brook, Agnes Hanley, and Amos Shepherd; Queen’s Maids, Misses Jessie Allan, Kathleen Brooks, Doreen Shanley’ and Evelyn Smith; Queen’s Trainbearers, Edna Whitton, Dillas Bryant, Isabella Walker and Leila Jaxenian; Flower Girls, Dillas Xorthmore, Edna Marston, Zita Brooks, Doris Alder, Sally Bryant, INI. Tweedie, and Isa Douglas, M. Lawson; Trumpeters, Messrs. Shaw: Swordbearers, Messrs. Connolly and Yates; Orbbearer, Miss .lanet McGill; Dovebearer, Miss Cissy O’Brien; Wards to Princess Daphne, Ruth Powell, Nellie Wigliam, Francis Deverall and Leila Mason; Train bearers, Allan Lowe and Moira Lowe; Pages, Alfie Powell, and John Morgan; Colour bearer, A. Peden; Ensign bearer, A. Hanley; Princess Daphne, Miss D. Sheeran; Maids of Honour, Misses Dot Haris and Hazel Ralph; Princess Nellie, Miss N. Smith; Maids of Honour, Misses Ethel Fairhurst and Mavis Angus; Archbishop of Canterbury, Mr. E. George; Lord High Chamberlain, Miss Mary Pa ton; Lord Chancellor, Mr. W. Diamond; Crown bearer, Mr. McGill: Red Princesses Court: Colour bearer. Godfrey De Latour; Standard bearer, Magnus Shepherd; Train bearer, Mavis Turton, and Fk. Angus; Page Boys, Alice and Lottie Harmsworth: Flower Girls, Joan Shaw, Phyllis Watkins, Pearl Shaw, and Olive Knapper. The beautiful bouquet carried by Queen Florrie was presented to her by Mrs. Leslie Kosoof, wife of Councillor L. Kosoof.
