TRACTORS ON FARMS

VALUE OF GARDEN MACHINE There is some difference of opinion still existing, says the English “Farmer and Stockbreeder,” as to the comparative value of horse and motor for farm work. But, without entering into any controversy, it may be said that if there be a horse of considerable value on a farm, it is a wasteful policy, although few farmers may agree, to set him to work drawing a van or lorry along the public roads, doing work that can be done far more quickly and cheaply by a light motor van. Inquiries made during a tour of the principal fruit-growing and market gardening districts, that paper adds, show that the garden tractor is not nearly as well-known as it should be. It fills a place where its utility is as great as that of the larger farm tractor, and there is no question as to its high efficiency and the amount of labour it saves. It can be fitted at will with any of the ordinary cultivating tools and will manoeuvre in a very small place.
