Gold Brick Wins Nicely Silver Rule Wins Two-Year-Old
(Spcqial to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. THE Canterbury Jockey Club’s Carnival concluded to-day in fine, but overcast weather. The attendance was again large and the track in splendid order. Results:—
SUBURBAN HANDICAP 6 THORNDALE, 9.11 1 i I—ROWLEY, TO.G 2 7 GOOSESTEP, 9.3 3 Also started. —Red Fuchsia, 9.12; The Harp, 9.6; Gold -Mint, Projector, 9.5: Dubious, 9.2; ornstalk, Happy Queen, Grand National, Wreath of Myrtle, Green Cloth, No Response, 9.0. Won by a length and a-half. Trine, 1.54. Rowley started a warm fayoyrife' for the Suburban Handicap, and there tvas also solid support for the bracket-, Red Fuchsia and Grand National 1 . Cornstalk was the first to- show out from Grand National and Red Fuchsia. Nearing the six furlongs post, Wreath of Myrtle took. charge, his nearest attendants being Cornstalk, Red Fuchsia and Projector. Thorn dale ran- xip to the leaders across the top and led into the straight from Rowley, who had
come from last llosition. In the run home. Thorndale was always going like a winner and eventually beat Rowley by a length and a-half. Goosestep, who finished well? was a length away third, . followed by Red Fuchsia, Green Cloth and Projector. The winner, who ran prominently at his last start, returned supporters a very acceptable dividend. CRESSY HANDICAP 7—GOLD BRICK. 7.9 1 9—NINCOMPOOP. 8.4 2 5 MONAGHAN. 7.11 3 Also started—Beaumont, 9.0; Taboo, Receipt, Rascal, 3.11; Moorland, 8.7; Ver-tig-ern, 8.5:' Black Duke. 7.12: Dismantle, 7.9. Arpent, Royal Saxor. Kenrnore, 7.7. Won by two lengths. .Time, 1.26 3-5. Gold Brick All the Way The favourite, Beaumont, with Dismantle and Kenmore were slow to move, Gold Brick leading out from Rascal and Receipt. Gold Brick showed the way into the straight, where Beaumont moved up on the rails. Monaghan put in a good run. followed by Nincompoop, but could make no impression on Gold Brick, who won nicely. Nincompoop finished better than Monaghan and got third money. Rascal was fourth. The favourite could not get through in the run home. ' PIONEER HANDICAP I—SILVER RULE, 8.9 1 4—HIGH DISDAIN. A Good Two - Year - OJd High Disdain was .the first to show j out from the barrier, followed by Sil- ; ver Rule and Goblin Market. The leader was two lengths clear of Silver Rule as they raced to the course proper. but the favourite drew level at the distance and going on won comfortably by two lengths from High Disdain, with Goblin Market third. Centrepiece, Paper Boy, Paperchase and Civility was the orctei , after a furlong had been covered, and the quintette ran in close forma ion o the half-mile post. Centrepiece supplanted Shirley in the lead and Loos i moved up to fourth place. Comic a was improving his position. Centrepiece looked a winner mside the distance. but Jennings brought P.oostei along with a final rattle to win by half a length from the fust-finishing Lomu. Song. Civility was third and Centre- , piece fourth.
