£loo, ooo WORTH OF RADIUM FOR AUSTRALIA
CANCER By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright CANBERRA, To-day. In the Federal House of Representatives to-day, the Assistant-Minister of Health, Sir Neville Howse, announced that the Commonwealth had purchased ten grammes of radium, which was valued at £IOO,OOO. He explained that there was among Federal Minister* a desire that there should be no delay in deciding whether the extraordinary claims made, particularly in the United States, for radium treatment, were justified. It was recognised that there had been an alarming spread of cancer in Australia; in fact, all over the world. The Ministry was anxious to take every possible step to alleviate or cure the condition of those suffering from this disease. One of the leading exponents of radium treatment in Great Britain, Dr. Burrows, would arrive in Australia next month, he said, to place radium treatment on the best possible basis in the Commonwealth.—A. and N.Z.
