MacCormick, Judge of the \ative Land Court, and a member of ?he Samoa Commission, left yesterday for Thames, where he will stay for the rest of the week. Mr. Catton Grasby, agricultural editor of the Perth “Western Mail,” arrived by the Marama yesterday. He is on a health visit to New Zealand and left for Rotorua this morning. Dr. Damell-Smith, who has been investigating the tobacco industry in the United States on behalf of the Australian Government, was a through passenger last night by the Niagara for Sydney. Mr. George Sanford, manager of the curing department of Sanford, Ltd., was sent to hospital last evening with a broken ankle, suffered as the result of being knocked down by a taxicab in Marine Square, Devonport, about 6 p.m. Lieutenant A. J. L. Whyte, of the Royal Engineers, who has been with the 40th (Fortress) Company at Hongkong for the last three years, has been appointed aide-de-camp to Sir Cecil dementi, Governor of Hong-Kong.
