MAJESTIC
I “CAPTAIN SALVATION” i r | Only two more nights remain for Majestic patrons to see Metro* * Goldwyn-Mayer's famous epic, "Cap- " tain Salvation,” which makes a deep - impresison on all those who see this r film. Lars I-lanson, the Swedish star, j who recently created a furore in “The Scarlet Letter” and "Flesh and the Devil,” plays the title role as the young ’ divinity student who forsook God for 5 the sea, with the dramatic results that make the play a thing apart. llar.son, a splendid actor, was once a sailor L himself, which adds to the realism of L his role, especially in the sea scenes. ‘ Pauline Starke, as the vivid charmer, ? and Marceline Day, as the village sweetheart, divide honours among the T women. One of the play’s outstanding \ figures is Ernest Torrence, as the bru- [ tai sea captain, a smiling devil gloating while men died in torture. George ' Fawcett, Flora Finch, Sam de Grasse, Eugenie Forde, and others of note have adequate roles, in what is one of the best acting casts assembled for a ’ single picture in years. John Robertson, who recently directed Lillian Gish in "Annie Laurie,” directed the new production with artistic skill. The musical programme provided by Mr. Birrell O’Malley this week at the Majestic is particularly popular with patrons. Mr. O’Malley’s pure tenor voice is heard to advantage in Del Reigo’s "Thank God for a Garden,” and Toselli’s "‘Serenata.” Mr. WTiiteford-Waugh’s New Majestic Orchestra renders a superb musical programme. “Oberon” (Weber) is specially featured as the overture. Other selections rendered are "Chopiniana Suite,” "Walls of China” (Lively). "Barcarolle” (Godard), “Romance” (Tschaikowsky), and some of the latest fox-trots recently arrived from London. The ever-popular and interesting Majestic News; an Eve’s Review, with a special British scenic, ‘“On the Norfolk Broads and Canals”; “More Memories—From Hooge to Bailleul”; a New Zealand scenic, “Strawberry Time”; and an hilarious animal comedy, "Live Cowards,” conclude an enjoyable evening’s entertainment. ] j ! i ! ! j ■ ! j j |
