LIMERICK STILL WINNING

CUP MEETING

Continued at Riccarton HURDLES TO RED FUCHSIA (.Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. FINE weather again favoured the Canterbury Jockey Club to-day, for its third day’s racing. The track is in splendid order and the attendance large.

PORT COOPER HURDLES 12 miles 2—RED FUCHSIA, 9.8 (A. McDonald) 1 I—KAIKAHU, 10.10 2 4—ABERFELDY, 11.2 3 Scr.: Projector. Won by four lengths. Time, 3.16.

An Easy Win Red Fuchsia scored a comfortable victory in the Port Cooper Hurdles. Ridden by A. McDonald, the Hastings •jumper was always in a prominent position and after jumping the last hurdle drew away to win by six lengths from Kaikahu, who was five lengths ahead of Aberfeldy. Dubious jumped slovenly over the first two hurdles and eventually came to grief at the mile post. Aberfeldy jumped better to-day and should soon win a hurdle race. SPRING NURSERY HANDICAP 5 furlongs • 1— SILVER PAPER, 8.13 .. .* 1 2 SILVER RULE, 8.0 • 2 G—CHIDE, 7.11 3 Time, 1.1 3-5.

A Good Finish Silver Paper, who ran second to the living Autumnus filly Childsplay in the Welcome Stakes, started a strong favourite for the Spring Nursery Handicap. Silver Rule and Goblin Market were first to show out and led on to the course proper from Banket and •Silver Paper. Silver Rule (wide out) looked a winner at the distance, but Silver Paper finished well and beat Silver Rule by a neck, ('hide was half a length away, followed by Concentrate, Goblin Market, Banket, Rigmarole and Noteworthy. Concentrate, too, ran very wide at the turn for home and but for this would have been closer than fourth at the finish. The victory of Silver Paper was well anticipated.

OTAIO PLATE 1 X miles 11—SIR ROY. 7.9 1 : 10—BATTLEMENT, 9.1 2 6—YOMA, 9.7 3 Serached: Joy Bird. Won by a length. Time 1.2 S 1-5. Sir Roy at a Price The Otaio Plate resulted in a victory for an outsider in Sir Roy. Ark Royal was the early leader from Royal ' Game and Cornstalk, and in that order ’ the pair raced to the straight, where Cornstalk dropped back and Royal ' ; Game went on from Ark Royal. Sir • J Roy came through at the false rail, and withstanding a strong challenge from Battlement and Yoma lasted long enough to win by three-quarters of a length from Battlement, who was a head in front of Yoma. Vaward was well up fourth. Oratrix came through over the last furlong to fill fifth place, and her finishing effort was a. good one. She will be hard to beat next CANTERBURY CUP Of £800: 2\ miles 1 LIMERICK. 9.0 (A. E. Ellis) . .. 1 ' 3—FOOTFALL. 9.5 (F. E. Jones) .. 2 2—-STAR STRANGER, 9.5 <R. ADDINGTON CARNIVAL

SECOND DAY'S SPORT LIST OF ACCEPTORS (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. fJ'HE Metropolitan Trotting Carnival which opened so successfully yesterday at Addington will be continued to-morrow and concluded on Friday. Judging by the acceptances received for the middle day’s card the racing will again be brimful of interest. Two items of additional importance to be staged are the New Zealand Derby and Free for AIL . A “Abaydos” suggests that the following may ?ind most favour with the public in their respective, events: WHITELEIGH.—-Real the Great, Lady Fan, Katute. N.Z. DERBY—Hoi mes’s Bracket, Monopole. COURTENAY.—Logan Park, Tom Thumb, Jack Potts. NOVEMBER.—Author Jinks, Jewel Pointer, Trimmer. METROPOLITAN.—Henry Logan, Amaris, King Pointer. FREE-FOR-ALL. Great B : ngen, Native Chief, Prince Pointer.

SOCKBURN.—Young Blake, Audo minion, Nighborn.

TEST FOR CHAMPIONS

FREE-FOR-ALL CLASSY FIELD TO-MORROW GREAT CONTEST EXPECTED One of the greatest events in the light-harness arena of the Dominion comes up for decision to-morrow at Addington. This is the Free-For-All. the real test of the speed kings. Several other clubs catered for this branch of the popular and spectacular sport, but with the exception of the Metropolitan body, all have deleted the event from their cards. Shrinkage in the totalisator revenue, appears to be the chief reason of the non-appearance of these fine tests. The Free-For-All was inaugurated in 1914, when that great grey pacer, Eccentric, the property of Mr. R. T.

Reid, now of Hamilton, was successful, the distance being 10 furlongs. In 1920 it was shortened to a mile, and the event lias produced some exceptionally fine contests. That great horse Author Dillon won the heat three years in succession, and Acron has two successive victories to his credit. Great Bingen, last year’s winner, will be favourite in to-morrow’s race and looks like pulling off his second win. Acron holds the time record with 2.3 3-5 put up in 1924. The field to-morrow will be a particularly strong one and the contest promises to be keen and the pace right on. Besides the champion, Great Bingen, Native Chief is a wonderful speed merchant over this distance, and should he go away smartly he will give Great Bingen a herculean tussle and it would not occasion surpise to see him down the crack. Prince Pointer can also produce a whole heap of speed and will keep the best of them busy, while big things are expected from Great Hope in this heat. Bonny Logan is a brillian miler, while Logan wood is always capable of a masterly effort. Peter Bingen and Bell Harold are speedy and will add interest to the race. The public will probably select Great Bingen, Native Chief, Prince Pointer. ABAT'D O S.

“SINS OF THE FATHER”

A KNOTTY PROBLEM TROTTING DISQUALIFICATION Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. At the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association meeting, the question whether the disqualification of a person also affected any foals running in bis paddocks was discussed. The subject arose through the application for registrtion of a horse by an owner who was the son of a man who had been disqualified for life. It was stated by the son that he had received the colt from his father when it was about five months old in exchange for a filly. The board decided to ask the present owner to make a. statutory declaration regarding ownership at the time of the disqualification of his father. Mr. Hayward said he did not think it was ever intended that the sins of the father should be visited on the sons. The speaker was inclined to take a humane view of the matter. The secretary read rule 348. which stated that “no horse of which a disqualified person was or had been at the time of an offence, owner, should be qualified to be entered, nominated or started for any race.”
