MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
At. a meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening it to arrange for a conference of the local b».«lies concerned in the maintenance of Mangere Bridge at a date to bo fixed council could not see its way to ei-ant the request of the Manukau Cruising Club to extend the term of lease of the clubhouse site to 25 years. The Te Papapa Tennis Club requested the council to prepare courts on the Te Papapa reserve, and offered to defray the cost of the work up to £125 and an additional £1 a year as ground rent. The offer was accepted. Mr. John Dawson, civil engineer, submitted a tentative estimate of £16,1i2 for sewering and draining the area recently a« ouired from the One Tree Hill district. The Mayor said that a larger scheme was under consideration embracing One Tree Hill and Ellerslie districts, and it was decided to arrange a conference with the bodies named at an early date. Mr. Dawson also confirmed the scheme of Mr. Greville Walker for draining the urea south of Neilson Street at an estimated cost of £ 6,082 16s, and recommended its adoption. The city treasurer forwarded a cheque for £507 6s lid, being the council’s share of heavy traffic licence fees for the quarter ended September 30. The town clerk of Auckland wrote advising that as the takings of the express bus service between the city and Onehunga showed a heavy loss, it had been decided to discontinue runrflng as from November 5. Several complaints were made of unsatisfactory roads and footpaths in the borough, and were referred to the Streets Committee. Accounts lor £1,253 2s 5d were passed for payment. The Post and Telegraph Department is to be requested to provide slot telephones at the corners of Norman’s Hill Road and Church Street, Captam Spring Road and church Street, Te Papapa. and a pillar letter box at the corner of Quadrant Road <nd Church Street.
The treasurer reported the following credit balances: District fund, £2,673; water mains’ loan account, £390; destructor loan. £2.297; drainage advances loan. £331; unemployment loan, £32.
