METROPOLITAN SCHEME
“MEAGRE REPRESENTATION”
ONEHUNGA’S COMPLAINT The Onehunga Borough Council at its meeting last evening had under consideration the report of the citizens’ and local bodies’ committee setting out its proposals for metropolitan government. “The whole scheme depends upon the attitude adopted by the Auckland City Council," said the Mayor, Mr. W. C. ColdicLitt. “If the city council’s approbation of the scheme can be gained, it will probably eventuate.” The chairman of the Streets Committee, Cr. Campling, said that he was opposed to any _ scheme that would deprive Onehunga of the control of its waterworks, and he felt sure that Onehunga could lay down concrete roads far cheaper than any metropolitan body. He also took exception to the meagre representation accorded to the borough on the metropolitan council, but admitted the advantages to be gained by having the services of highly-skilled engineers. The Mayor having intimated that the originators of the scheme were prepared to meet the ratepayers and elaborate the details, it was decided to call a public meeting for that purpose at an early date.
