SHOT BY STRAY BULLET

ACCIDENT AT LAKE WAIRARAPA

(Special to THE SUNJ MASTERTON, Monday. While gathering birch at Bocket’s Bush, on the western shores of Lake Wairarapa on Sunday, the Mayor of Featherston, Mr. J. W. Card, was shot in the leg by a stray bullet. The shot was fired by a man who was one of a party from Wellington which camped at the lake over the week-end. They had finished pig shooting, and were having some practice shots at an empty benzine tin. The bush here is thick, and Mr. Card was not seen by the men shooting. One of the shots entered Mr. Card’s right, thigh, above the knee joint. The piece of lead, on entering the leg, penetrated for some distance, but hit neither bone nor artery.
