LATE MR. J. SANDERSON
MAORI WAR VETERAN Another Maori War veteran. Mts John Sandexson, died at the Auckland Hospital yesterday morning at the age of Sc. Born in Carlisle, Mr. Sanderson sailed for New Zealand with his parents in the ship Helvelan in 1863. He had served three years with the Dumfries 'Militia and on arrival in the Dominion joined the 3rd Waikato Regiment. He went to the Waikato and took part in the Orakau and R»ngiriri engagements, as well as other minor skirmishes. He was granted a discharge in 18€5 and went to Thames, where he engaged in mining. Later he joined the armed constabulary under Colonel Whitmore. On leaving the service he came to Auckland and for the past 1# years had been an inmate of the Veterans’ Home. Mr. Sanderson was not married.
