RESTAURANT CRASHES KILLING 120 WOMEN
TERRIBLE TRAGEDY OF UNION MEETING HELD IN SHANGHAI By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. SHANGHAI, Sunday. A shocking calamity occurred in Shanghai. A two-storeyed restaurant collapsed during a meeting held to discuss the formation of a female silk workers’ union. One hundred and twenty women were killed outright and 200 others were injured. Those present stampeded when a cry of “fire” was heard, and 500 persons were buried beneath ruins of brick and stone. Horrifying scenes were witnessed. The women fought like maniacs to escape from the premises. The alarm of fire proved to have been false. —A. and N.Z.
