MOTOR SPIRIT STILL REMAINS SAME PRICE
INCREASE DATE INDEFINITE POWER-BOATS’ EXEMPTION ItTOTOR spirit still remains at the same price and no one seems to know just when the increase is likely to be made effective. Auckland oil company offices have received no instructions, and the retailers and traders are waiting until something happens. Ahe position of the motor-boat proprietors has been fairly definitely stated by the Prime Minister. Mr. A. J. Collings, secretary of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association, received a telegram from Mr. Coates stating that petrol for power craft would be exempted from the tax. An explanatory letter now received from the Prime Minister states: “In case the wording of my gram of yesterday may be misleading, I may say the actual position is that the tax on petrol used in motor-boats, in common with petrol used for ail other purposes, is paid at the time of importation, but the owners of motorboats will be entitled to a refund periodically, on the petrol actually used by them. —(Signed) J. G. Coates.”
