DAIRYING PROTEST
ARBITRATION AMENDMENT EXCLUSION OF FARMING Press Association. PAHIATUA, Sunday. At a large assembly at Pahiatua yesterday the following resolutions were passed unanimously: That this meeting of chairmen of the whole of the dairy factories operating in the district from Woodyille to Eketahuna is firmly of opinion that the Government should exempt the dairy industry from the operations of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and in the interests of the industry demands prompt action by the Government. It is also necessary that the Prime. Minister be urged to stand firmly behind the dairy farmers in the matter. That this meeting emphatically protests against the action of the Wellington Employers’ Association in opposing the amendment to the Arbitration Act now before the House, without securing the opinion of the dairy companies which are members of the association. The meeting affirms its conviction that it is in the interests of the dairying industry to be excluded from the operations of the Act, as suggested in the Bill, and strongly urges the Government to proceed with the Bill in its entirety. It was arranged that a delegation should go to Wellington to give evidence on the question.
