CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR LEPER PATIENTS

APPEAL FOR PRESENTS Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health at Auckland, is making an appeal for presents for the leper patients at Makogai, and it is hoped that the public will respond in generous fashion. A LETTER from Dr. Neff, medical superintendent of the leper station, has been received by Dr. Hughes, asking for assistance, in broadcasting an appeal in connection with the patients* Christmas Day and Comforts Fund. Everything that can be used to promote the happiness of the patients will be gratefully received. D.r. Neff thanked the New Zealand public for the many gifts received during the year and for its help at Christmas. Children’s toys such as tops, whistles, dolls and simple indoor games, are especially welcome, and for the blind patients waistbelts with large buckles would be very useful. For the adult patients safety razors, mirrors, pipes, tobacco, fishing tackle, bicycles, tyres and carpenter’s tools for building a launch will be appreciated, and also fancy goods and materials for sewing for the female patients. Gifts will be received at the Health Office in Anzac Avenue and by Mr. D. L. Thomas, Domain Board. Mount Albert, who will collect goods if he is communicated with.
