“BEAU SABREUR”
A GREAT DESERT FILM Ibra Pass, a narrow defile in the rocks of the Sahara desert, forms one of the backgrounds for an important sequence in Paramount’s coming big special production, “Beau Sabreur.” This pass, just large enough for a camel to enter without scraping its sides, has a twin brother. It was discovered by Paramount studio experts. This duplicate is at Red Rock canyon, on the Mojave desert, California, about 200 miles from Hollywood. A Paramount company of 500 travelled to Red Rock to make the scenes. In “Beau Sabreur,” as written by Percival C. Wren, a little caravan races a band of fierce Touaregs across the Sahara, hoping to reach Ibra Pass and thereby gain the gateway to the Great Oasis. The caravan succeeds and three of the men vainly try to hold off the attackers until the others have passed through, so that a mission for France lpight be fulfilled. Gary Cooper plays the title role in “Beau Sabreur,” which is a spectacular companion to the successful picture “Beau Geste.” Others in the cast are Evelyn Brent, Noah Beery, William Powell, Mitchell Lewis, Roscoe Karns, Arnold Kent, Emil Chautard, Frank Reicher and Oscar Smith.
