“COURT SATISFACTORY”
ARBITRATION DISCUSSION EMPLOYERS’ EVIDENCE Press Association. WELLINGTON, Friday. In giving evidence on behalf of the Xew Zealand Employers’ Federation before the Labour Bills Committee today, on the Arbitration Amendment Bill, Air. T. C. Brash, president of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation, said fruitgrowing should be among the exemptions. Air. O'Alalley, representing hotel and restaurant workers, said the court had given satisfaction and could not be interfered with without harm to the industry. Permanent assessors were well qualified to deal with the various awards. Air. E. Kennedy, secretary of the Cooks’ and Stewards’ Union, said the Bill would drive them outside altogether. They would promptly deregister, and would not attempt to work under the proposed Act. They were in favour of permanent assessors. Air. A. Seed, representing the Federated Sawmillers of the Dominion, was of opinion that the provision for an alteration in the personnel of the court was not good. He was not in favour of the Bill. The sawmillers preferred district awards to Dominion awards. They approved of payment by results.
