FOR THE ORPHANAGES

WIRELESS SETS AND TOYS DANCE IN SCOTS HALL Charity’s claims are now being pressed from all directions, but it is now near Christmas time, and the city orphanages have a special claim on generosity. The Combined Shop Assistants’ Association, through its Charity Club, has for several years made an effort each Christmas to provide Santa Claus with a specially big bag of toys for each of the children's homes, and the campaign for funds this year is to be pressed on with a carnival dance on Monday evening in the Scots Hall, where a series of dances has been held throughout the winter. From these dances £220 has been already distributed to four selected relief organisations, and more money is still needed for Santa is to descend each orphanage chimney with a wireless set in his sack. Ten or 11 of these each costing £3O have to be provided, so the Scots Hall on Monday evening should be thronged with folk eager to contribute toward a lasting pleasure for the orphan children.
