Judge Stringer’s Retirement.---The council of the Howard League of Penal Reform has forwarded to Mr. Justice Stringer a resolution expressing its regret that the Prisons Board is losing the benefit of his valuable services.
Taumarunui Band.—A message from Taumarunui states that Mr. J. P. Curreen, aged 67, well known throughout the North Island in connection with musical circles, has been appointed conductor of the band in that town.
Boy Breaks His Arm.—Leonard Russell Keat, aged 15, broke his left arm through falling from a cycle last evening. After attention at the Auckland Hospital. he was taken to his home at 27 Victoria Crescent, Newmarket.
Reformative Treatment.--It the Supreme Court at Timaru to-day John Howard Tripp was found guilty on two charges of obtaining goods by false pretences, and was sentenced tc reformative treatment for a period not exceeding two years. In refusing an application for probation, Mr. Justice Adams said ,ihe community must be protected.
