SUTCLIFFE'S CAPTAINCY
“WHY NOT IN AUSTRALIA”
LORD HAWKE’S OPPOSITION

It has been disclosed that the choice of Herbert Sutcliffe for the captaincy of the Yorkshire Cricket Club was carried by 13 votes to 11, the minority including: Lord Hawke, who also opposed restoring: Sutcliffe to amateurism, which proposal was defeated by 19 votes to 5.
Hobbs raises the question as to why Rhodes was not chosen, but Rhodes intimated that he did not want the captaincy.
Already the suggestion has cropped up, “Why should not Sutcliffe captain England's side in Australia in 1928?” A. and N.Z.
TEST AT BRISBANE
M.C.C. NOT UNFAVOURABLE
Reed. 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Thurs. The Australian Board of Cricket Control has not yet advised the M.C.C. of its decision to play a test at Brisbane.
One of the highest authorities informed the Australian Press Association that it is unlikely and that the M.C.C. would object as feared in Australia. The M.C.C. could safely leave Australia to arrange the most advantageous terms for both countries. — A. and N.Z.
