Woman Shoplifter Admits Six Charges
ASSORTED GOODS STOLEN
WAS SHE KLEPTOMANIAC?
DESCRIBED by her solicitor as a kleptomaniac, Anna Mills, a married woman aged 40, pleaded guilty at the Police Court to-day to six charges of shop-lifting. The value of the goods stolen was £39 12s 6d. The accused was nervous and wideeyed as the clerk read the long list of articles stolen. The thefts were committed toward the end of last month. Chief-Detective Cummings said that there had been a good deal of shoplifting during the past few months, and accused was kept under observation. On October 28 she was caught stealing in a city shop, and when her home was searched later, the other stolen goods were recovered. KLEPTOMANIA PLEA “This is a clear case of kleptomania,” said Mr. Inder, who appeared for the accused. “A few years ago she went upder a serious operation, and has not been the same since.” Counsel went on to say that most of the stolen articles were useless, and had been just stored away in a box. “She took nine pairs of gloves of different sizes,” said Mr, Inder, “and also some children’s clothing that was of no use to her.” The magistrate, • Mr. E. Page, remanded accused to appear for sentence on Monday.
