DIVORCE BETTER THAN SEPARATION

UNHAPPY MARRIAGES ENGLISH JUDGE’S VIEW By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Tuesday. Views, on divorce expressed by Mr. Justice Hills have aroused a lively controversy. He said some day, perhaps, the law will be altered to enable a Judge to use his discretion and order a divorce when a judicial separation is sought. Proceeding His Honour said it was interesting to record that before the Royal Commission on Divorce sat in 1912 a similar opinion was expressed, namely, that if a separation were an undesirable” remedy leading to immorality it was not reasonable that a Judge should not be empowered to make a divorce decree. It was not a question concerning one party alone. It also concerned children and the State. In the interest of morality, therefore, it should not be left to the caprice of one party.—A. and N.Z.
