Thf British Olympic Association considers that the decision of ths Olympic Gamas authorities to psrmit ths payment of footballers for broken time may lead the British and Dominion authorities in other sports to dissociate themwlvss from the Amsterdam meeting. The association intends to summon A meeting of the governing bodies to consider the question of amateurism forthwith. If the association withdraws It will be in defence of principle, as its protests about semi-amateur-ism in the past have been vain. The council of the Lawn Tennis Association proposes to debar amateurs from receiving money for broadcasting, writing articles for newspapers. or giving interviews about lAmes in which they are engaged. The “Daily Express” says that for fcrcical childishness this would be Hard to beat. Everybody knows that tournament lawn tennis is steeped in veiled professionalism. The players toceive inducements to u*>e special rackets and balls. They stay free at pviera hotels and they take prizes in the form of orders on sports firms *nich are very easily cashed.
