RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM

“HEART OF SALOME” From a man who sacrificed himself on tile altar of love and bravely gave up the one woman of his life, as he did in “Marriage Licence,” 'Walter Pidgeon steps into the role of the successful lover in “The Heart of Salome.” And, strangely enough, the woman he lost in the former screen drama is the same one he wins in the later production, namely, the beautiful Alma Rubens. But here all resemblance ends. For in “Marriage Licence,” Pidgeon was a self-sacrificing French perfumer and Miss Rubens a self-sacrificing mother who gave him up for the sake of her son. But in “The Heart of Salome,” which is now being shown at the Rialto and Regent Theatres, Miss Rubens plays the role of a daring spy for a master of shady finance, portraved by Holmes Herbert, and Mr. Pidgeon plays the part of the successful suitor of the exotic spy. Dorothy MScKaill and Jack Mulhall figured in an automobile accident, but for film purposes only. As a matter of fact the two First National players figured in seven automobile accidents, only one of which, however, will receive official recognition. The mishaps were staged for a scene in “The Crystal Cup.” and the collision of the two automobiles, piloted by Jack Mulhall and Dorothy MacKaiil respectively, serves as a novel introduction of the two characters in the story.
