Labour Has Substantial Win in British Municipal Elections

British Wireless—Press Assn.—Copyright Received 11.7 a.m. RUGBY, Wednesday. THE polling at the municipal elections in England and Wales yesterday in substantial Labour gains. The results so far known show a net gain to Labour of 93 seats, which have been secured mainly at the expense of the Conservatives, who have lost 70 seats and gained only seven.

rpHE Liberals gained 12 and lost 33, and Independents gained 16 and lost 25. Tile pi'incipal Labour gains were in

the industrial, Midlands and Northern counties, but the party was less successful in Scotland.

The latest .figures give the position as follows:- % Gains. Losses. Labour . . . . .. 105 12 Conservatives .... 7 70 Liberals ...... 12 33

Independents .... 16 25 The Moderates won five seats from Labour in Glasgow;—A. and N.Z.

At the British municipal elections last year the' Conservatives gained 22 seats and lost 98; the Liberals gained 8 and lost 61; Labour gained 152 seats, 47 from Conservatives, 41 from Liberals, and 55 from Independents, and lost 14.
