An attractively decorated hall and delightful dance music were features that added to the pleasure of the numerous patrons at a dance organised at Taringamotu, the proceeds being in aid of the piano fund and the Plunket nurse’s car fund. Mr. Ralph Hawkes was M.C., and the music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. E. McHattie, Miss Hawson, Miss I>. McElroy, Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Begg. Among those present were a number of performers from the locality and outside districts, and these kindly supplied items. The performers-were Misses Hughes (2), Misses Edwards and Grice, Mrs. Williamson, Messrs. Edwards, W. Hughes, J. Brown, E. Calderwood, F. Ashhurst, A. Congdon and W. A. Campbell. Miss Fitall and Mr. Stevens won the spot waltz competition, the Monte Carlo event going to Miss H. Belshaw and Mr. L. Cleary. Mrs. Congdon and Miss O. Belshaw won a ham presented by Mrs. Jefferson, and Miss Joyce Hawkes won a beautiful handbag presented by Mrs. R. Handley. The Taumarunui School Committee organised another dance in aid of the playground area land purchase fund, but owing to counter-attractions only meagre support was accorded it. An orchestra consisting of Messrs. C. McKenzie (piano), R. Dee (cornet) and J. Slattery (violin) supplied the music, and Mr. N. Todd was M.C. A delightful time was spent by those present, the proceedings including a supper provided by the ladies. The Raurimu Cricket Club held a very successful annual dance recently. Mrs. Smith and Messrs. J. Weir and Bacon supplied the musical requirements of the dancers, extras being given by Miss V. Karam and Mr. X. Karam. As M.C., Mr. G. Rees conducted his duties to the satisfaction of all patrons. The cricket club I lias every prospect of a good season before it. The Ohura Tennis. Club had a wonderfully fine night, and a very large attendance, for its dance held in aid of club funds. Everything went off most cnjoyably, and credit is due to the . organisers for a really pleasant time. Mrs. A. Armstrong had charge ! of tho music, and Mr. P. H. Brookes I acted as master of ceremonies. The | ladies of the club provided a delicious ; supper. The Public Works Department emplovees held their annual Labour Day picnic at Matiere, the event being somewhat spoiled by wintry conditions. Despite this, a happy time was spent, and some £23 worth of prizes were distributed. The chief event, tho 440 yards race, was won by Mr. Kenealy. Special attention was given to the children, who received gifts of fruit and sweets. Mr. E. Slipper presided over a large attendance of members and supporters of the Athletic Football Club, Taumarunui, on the occasion of its wind-ing-up social for the season. An orchestra comprising Messrs. C. McKenzie (piano). J. Slattery (violin) and W. Signal (violin), supplied a number of musical selections during the evening, and items were rendered by Messrs. M. Kingi. J. Cox. A. Hailwood and B. Day. The customary toast list was honoured, and a most pleasant social function closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne.” The lvaitieke Cricket Club has elected the following officers for the coming year: Patroness, Mrs. J. *. Waldegrave: president, Mr. H. L. Bruce; secretary and treasurer, M». IX. C.
