( district, was held in the Howick Pr2 bvterian Hall on Monday celebrate the old Scottish custom „■ Hallowe en. The Rev. J. Scott very interesting address, ineidentlv ** plaining to the gathering the mean" of the celebration. * A very enjoyable musical and instrumental programme was mined and met with th.» unanimoy approval of the large gathering. Th. contributions were from scholars o' the school, assisted by some of theifriends. A very much appreciated character sketch was staged, depicting Florence at tending the wounded. _ Toward the close of the evenings frivolity a dainty supper was served.
