LATE MR. H. M. SMEETON
FUNERAL SERVICE IN TABERNACLE Prior to the funeral of Mr. H. M. Smeeton a service was held in the Baptist Tabernacle yesterday. Beautiful wreaths and floral emblems were piled on the coffin and the service was largely attended. The Rev. J. W. Kemp referred to deceased’s many activities especially in the church, in which for 35 years he held various offices. Mr. Smeeton’s work in securing the college site for the training of ministers was referred to by the Rev. J. J. North. He said that the project was the dream of Mr. Smeeton’s life, and only two weeks ago the deceased had journeyed to Wellington to take part in deliberations connected with the scheme, and had been elected chairman of the college board. At the close of the service Mr. Arthur Wilson played the Dead March. At the funeral at Waikaraka later, the Rev. J. W. Kemp, associated with other church leaders, officiated at the service. ♦ The pall-bearers ..were Messrs W. Smeeton, J. Smeeton, W. E. Bush, F. Brookbanks, W. R. Ellington and R. S. Abel.
