Woman Found Guilty of Receiving
EPSOM BURGLARY M.P. IN WITNESS BOX FOUND guilty yesterday of receiving stolen property, Ina Beatrice Wills was remanded until to-morrow morning for sentence. The prisoner, who was represented by Mr. J. F. W. Dickson and Mr. A. G. Quartley, was charged on four counts of breaking, entering and theft and receiving. The case was the sequel to the midnight chase, after a shop at Epsom had been broken into by a man named Skinner, who had pleaded guilty and who had been sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. After the verdict, which was returned by the jury after three and ahalf hours, Mr. Quartley called Mr. F. N. Bartram, M.P. for Grey Lynn, to speak on behalf of the prisoner. Mr. Bartram said he had known her for 12 or 13 years and had been well acquainted with her family. She had played a prominent part in philanthropic organisations, and he had never known anything against her honesty. He had always regarded her as a highspirited girl with a leaning toward the theatrical, and not capable of a mean action.
