BLASTING EXPLOSION WAS ACCIDENTAL

MT. ALBERT FATALITY That death was accidental was the verdict returned by the coroner yesterday at the inquest on George Hamilton McMahon, late of 14 Shaw Street, Morningside, who died as a result of injuries received, in a premature explosion of gelignite on October 18. McMahon, who was employed by the Mount Albert Borough Council, had been working in a tunnel on the west side of Gordon Road. The explosion occurred while rock was being drilled, and McMahon was struck on the head by flying fragments. * The Government Inspector, Mr. J. Newton, said he was satisfied that the men engaged in the work were competent and that the accident was caused by premature explosion of gelignite.
