NEW REGENT

“SENORITA” This is the best story that X have ever had. And this is the first time I have said that, too.” Thus does Bebe Daniels characterise her latest Paramount comedy-drama “Sonorita,” an. original screen play by John McDermott written expressly for Miss Daniels, which is now being shown at the New Regent Theatre. In this production Miss Daniels dons hirsute adornment on her upper lip, for in this picture the fascinating Bebe, whose femininity has been- so pronounced in previous works, launches into a totally different characterisation from any before attempted. “Senorita” is a fast moving comedydrama in which Miss Daniels appears as one of the dashing dons. She is forced through exigencies of the plot to adopt a moustache, and enact the part of a man, the which she does with utmost skill and nonchalance. James Hall is leading man and discharges his duties with his habitual ease. William Powell is featured as the villain. Others in the cast are Tom Kennedy, Josef Swickard and Joan Standing. One of the fastest acts ever seen on the Auckland Regent stage is that being presented this week by Fink and Ayres, American skating sensationalists, for the act only lasts four minutes, during which time some marvellous skating skill is demonstrated upon the small rostrum. Both boys hold records for long distance skating in America and also for fancy and trick skating, the most recent of which they tied for in New York. They have been practising as.many as six hours a day since they have been in Australia and New Zealand, for the long sea trip from America put them a little out of their stride. Eddie Horton at the Wurlitzer introduces another novelty song film which has become very popular this week. The New Regent Operatic Orchestra. under the conductorship of Mr. Maurice Guttridge, plays some very fine selections during the programme.
