TAUPO FISHING

FAIR CATCHES MADE (From Our Own Correspondent J TAUPO, Tuesday. Fair catches marked the beginning of the fishing season to-day, though squalls and thunder made conditions unpleasant. The limit to one rod was obtained by Mr. P. Wells, of Taupo, and his 15 fish were all 151 b or over. Messrs. Lonsdale. Landless and Smith, English anglers, took 20 fish from the launch Tainui. Mr. A. Maxwell and a party on the Kingfisher caught 14 fish, and Mr. J. Sheehan and Mr. Charles Manning off the.Tainui caught 19 fish before breakfast. Miss Nixon and party from the Whizzbang secured 12. The Maoris say the trout are in better condition than for years. Mr. G. P. Reid, on the Dawn, the only launch to get round Rangitira Point, secured 11 trout. This afternoon Mr. Sheehan, Mr. Manning and party on the Kingfisher landed 16 fish.
