CURIOUS CREATURE WAS A MUDWORM

LOW FORM OF LIFE The curious creature which was drawn from the sea-bed on Monday through the dredge at Devonport was a mudworm, belonging to the echiurus family. The creature lives in the mud on the bed of the sea. It belongs to a low form of life and passes mud through its long body to obtain the nourishment which keeps it alive. Mr. Gilbert Archey, curator of the museum, to whom the creature was given, says that it is not the first of its kind he has seen. One was found in the Auckland Harbour some time ago.
