W. R. PENN, managing **■ A director of Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., is one of Neto Zealand’s pioneers. Rom in tlxe County of Worcestershire, England, Mr. Penn teas educated at the King Edward Grammar

School, Stourbridge, and later articled to a firm o 1 civil engineers. It zcas as a fully qualified civil engineer that he landed in Taranaki in his early twenties. There he spent, a time pioneering in the bush until about JO years ago, when he came to Auckland. Eor two or three years he held down jobs for various mercantile firms prior to joining the late Mr. Alfred Buckland. For many years secretary of the firm, he now occupies the position of managing director, and among the commercial and farming communities is •known in most parts of the Auckland Province. To-day the firm has, perhaps, ft bigger connection in stock and station circles than any other similar private firm in the Dominion. For many years the. president of the Auckland Woolbrokers’ Association, Mr. Penn has always supported any movement which has had the icelfare of the district at heart. In his younger days Mr. Penn was no mean unit in the strength of the Auckland senior football fifteen. Latterly he has been called upon to occupy the position of patron to several sports clubs.
