ASSOCIATION’S MEETING

LATE STARTING OF MATCHES The following members were present at last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association:—Messrs. E. E. Xalder, chairman, H. Horspool, D. V. Moore, R. Dow, W. J. Bennett, X. C. Snedden, G. Jackson, E. B. Gee (vice Mr. W. J. Smeeton), L. H. Saunders, E. C. Beale and X. E. IT. Hoc-kin, hon. secretary. A motion of condolence with Mr. W. J. Smeeton in the death of his father was carried. Reference was rrrade to late starting in matches and to the exceeding of the two-minute interval between the fall of a wicket and the incoming batsman taking his place at the wicket. emphasised the necessity for all clubs seeing that the rules in this respect were strictly adhered to. It was decided that in all A.C.A. matches a new ball can only be called for at the begininng of each day’s play unless, in the opinion of the umpire, the ball in use is unfit for play. By a unanimous vote, it was resolved to increase the secretary's honorarium from £SO to £75. Reference was made to the big increase in the secretarial work, and to the excellent manner in which the business of the association was being transacted. Mr. Beale was granted leave of absence for three meetings, and the nomination of Mr. C. G. Cummings to act in his stead was accepted.
