WHANGAREI FIXTURE

COURSE IN FINE ORDER TRAINING OPERATIONS (Special to THE SUN..) Mr. Eddie Lewis, the well-known owner and breeder, was in town last week to see his horses work. Maungatariri and Adjure were sent together over six furlongs. The former moved very* freely throughout, and her performance was encouraging. Adjuster and Kawhiti have also arrived and have joined W. Donovan’s team. Exalted and the maiden performer by Depredation—Furore, in the same stable, were companions over six furlongs, the latter going the better at the finish. Tom Carson has taken Challenge in hand. This mare was recently - sent back from R. E. Brown’s stable at Ellerslie. Things are becoming very busy 7 at Kensington, and during the next few days there should be some interesting work. The course proper, which has been closed all the winter, is in good order. Tressillian was again galloped on the course proper over six furlongs. He was picked up over the last four by' Wild Arch, the former moving freely* throughout. They* both carried a heavy load in the gallop, which was •against fast time. Maungatariri and Adjuster were also galloped over five furlongs, both moving with free action. Michael is doing well in his work since returning from Auckland. Taiere is nothing outstanding among the local horses. Just Quietly* may still be capable of giving some of them a headache. There has been some galloping on the course proper of late. One trainer has been allowed on three times in the last fortnight. If the weather is suitable for the course to be open it might be advisable to post a notice up to that effect, so that trainers generally may take advantage of the opportunity of trying out their horses on the actual convincing ground.
