Roads & Councils

Steady progress has been made with the work of concreting Jervois Road, from the Herne Bay tramshed on toward the terminus. * * * The Main Highways Board has advised the Morrinsville Borough Council of the approval of a subsidy of 30s for £1 on a sum of £SOO for maintenance of the main traffic route through the borough. A start has been made with the work of concreting the road from Northcote Wharf northwards. * * » The chairman of the Thames County Council, Mr. H. Lowe, has been advised that the Main Highways Board has approved a £3 for £1 subsidy for the maintenance of the Thames coast road, thereby placing the road in the category of main highways. The cost of metalling the road has long been fraught with difficulty to the council, owing to its extensive use by touring motorists and inroads of the sea, which have necessitated the construction of walls. * * * The Papakura Town Board has now completed tlie work on the shoulders of the concrete roading within its territory, and the rolling and tarring of three or four feet of the borders greatly minimises danger on the highway while at the same time providing a 25ft. road surface instead of the 18ft. of concrete.
