“THE GHOST TRAIN”

THRILLS AT HIS MAJESTY’S Thrills a-plenty are available at “The Ghost Train,” which the J. C. Williamson Company is running nightly at His Majesty’s Theatre. This latest gruesome, yet uproarious, comedy, tooted its way into Auckland to the accompaniment of shrieks and black-outs. For sending creeps up and down the average theatregoer’s spine there have been few theatrical productions of the mystery order to equal it. A notable feature In connection with “The Ghost Train” is the general excellence of its mechanism. The noises “off” stage are masterpieces. The plot thickens until the audience is raised almost to the pitch of hysteria. And the denouement is as unexpected as can possibly be anticipated from a thriller like “The Ghost Train.” Doors open and shut as the ghost train dashes through the country station. The mystery deepens in the little station when a distracted girl appears, followed by her brother and

a doctor. There is a knock on the door, and the stationmaster falls into the room—dead! Betty Ross Clarke plays her role exceedingly well. Basil Radford has a difficult part, which he plays with distinction. That capable actor, Mayne Lynton, is also in the cast, and gives the sound performance that is always expected of him. Others in the cast include Roger Barrj r , Hugh E. Wright, Mary Rigby, John Bailey, Laura Smithson, Leslie Palmer, Edgar Warwick, Reginal Roberts, and Robert Steele.
