PICTURE STAR

DANCES INTO FAME Because he learned how to dance the tango well when he was a boy in the Argentine, H. D’Abbadie D’Arrast is now a motion picture director. This secret of D’Arrast’s past was uncovered by Adolphe Menjou, whom D’ Arrast has directed in his last two successes, “Service for Ladies,” and “A Gentleman of Paris.” Alenjou was looking through the files of old pictures at the paramount studio* when he uncovered a photograph of a scene in “My American Wife,” made six years ago. There was a familiar look to a dashing caballero picking at a guitar in the background. Menjou confronted D’Arrast with the picture and he had to own up. D’Arrast and Alenjou met for the first time while, working for Charles Chaplin in “A Woman of Paris” Alenjou saw talent in D’Arrast and his interest resulted in D’ Arrast directing his first picture for Paramount with Alenjou as the star. “Service for Ladies,’ was such a success that D’Arrast was assigned to “A Gentleman of Paris,” and now will do Alenjou’s next picture, as yet untitled, from an original by Ernst Vadja.
