NOT SO MANY MARRIAGES Spring is usually said to be the sea* son when Cupid is most active in impaling the hearts of men and maids. Cold figures, however, show that last month there were only 147 weddings, as compared with 165 during October of last year. Furthermore, for the last ten month a 1,654 marital knots were tied in Auckland, but for the corresponding term in 1026 1,760 marriages were solemnised —a falling off of 106. Births show a decided increase for October, 296, as against 267 in October, 1926. During the past ten months 1,530 people died, while 1,540 deaths were recorded for the corresponding term last year.
