CHEAPER STRAWBERRIES POTATOES ALSO EASIER An increased offering of strawberries came forward at the City Marts this morning. Values were easier. Bananas were scarce and dear. Potatoes. in increased supplies, made easier money. Apples met with a steady sale at unchanged values. Delicious were off the market and Stunners and Doughertys are* the only local varieties left. A fresh shipment of Canadian apples arrive this week. An almost bare market of bananas will be relieved by a fresh shipment which arrives on the Tofua to-night. The Waipahi, on her last trip from the Cook Group this season, brought a small shipment of oranges on to the market to-day. Strawberries and gooseberries came on the market in larger quantities this morning and sold at slightly easier values. The flush of the strawberry season can be expected to commence within the next week or so. In the «eld and garden produce section potatoes are easier in price and the quality of the tubers coming forward shows signs of improvement. Eggs record a slight firming tendency, though quotations are unchanged at from Is 6id to Is Td a dozen for hens’ and Is s£d to Is 6d a dozen for ducks'. Prices under the hammer at to-day’s auctions in the City Marts ranged as follow: — FRUIT Apples: Stunners, 11s 6d to 14s a ease; Doughertys, Ss 6d to 12s a case. Pears: Nellis and Coles, repacked, 13s to 15s a case; P. Barrys, Ss to 10s. Oranges: Island, 22s 6d a case; Sydney Valencias, 18s to 265. Lemons: Local, 6s to 13s a case. Tomatoes: Hothouse, Is to Is 6d a lb.; Cook Island, 14s to l6s 6d a case. Tree tomatoes: 5s to 10s a case. Bananas: Repacked, 34s to 36s a case. Gooseberries: 16s 6d to 17s an 181 b case. Strawberries: Is to 3s a chip. Grapes: Californian, black. 2Ss a keg; Californian, white, 26s a keg. VEGETABLES Potatoes: Southern, 6s 6d to 7s 6d a cwt.; new, 2d to 22d a lb. Kumaras: 12s to 15s a cwt. Pumpkins: 10s 22s a cwt. Swedes: Is to 2s a bag. Onions: 18s to 19s a crate. Cabbage: 2s to 7s a sack. Cauliflower: 3s to 10s a sack. Lettuce: 3s to 10s a case.
