ANTI-BRITISH MAYOR

AUSTRALIAN SPEAKS OUT CHICAGO ACTIVITIES By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Saturday. A reference to the anti-British activities of the Mayor of Chicago, Mr. William Thompson, was made by Sir Hugh Denison, Australian Commissioner to the United States, in an address to women at the George Washington Sulgrave Institution. The speaker said: “It seems a pity that in times of peace and goodwill a man in Chicago should be stirring up racial antagonism, which tends to destroy the good feeling which for ten years has been growing up between us.” Referring to Mr. W. E.. Borah, Sir Hugh said he was astonished that the chairman of' the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate should be a man, who, admittedly, had never visited any other country. The most astounding thing was that Mr. Borah persistently refused to go abroad because of his fear that it would alter his American point of view to go to other countries and see what the minds of others were. —A. and N.Z.
