RIFLE SHOOTING
CITY AND SUBURBAN CLUB GOOD MARKSMANSHIP The final shoot for trophies presented by Messrs. J. B. Johnston and A. G. Poison was fired at 800 and 900yds on Saturday. There was a good attendance, and although the weather was good the wind proved troublesome, especially at the longer range. In A grade H. J. Verrall again proved himself one of the finest marksmen in Auckland over long distances by registering an excellent 92, while in B grade J. L. Fraser, a young shot of great promise, cleared right away from the opposition and won by a margin of nine points. Trophy point winners in the series are; A Grade. —Pieterson 5 (J. B. Johnston’s trophy): Pring 4, Patrick 4, Thompsons, Verrall 3, Russell 2, Watson, Hughes and Clark 1 each. B Grade. —T. Spry 5 (A. G. Poison’s trophy); J. L. Fraser 4, A. R. Fraser 3, H. W. Cousins 3, L. F. Verrall 3, C. C. Watt 2. G. G. Kelly 2, R. Matthews and S. Griffiths 1 each. Saturday’s scores are:— A GRADE
Spoons were won by H. .T. Verrall and j. l. Fraser in their respective grades. THAMES DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) The Thames Defence Rifle Club competed on Saturday for a trophy donated by Mr. Labarre. The weather was ideal for shooting, and R. Cameron put on 94 out of a possible 100, winning the prize, which he generously returned to the club for a further competition at a later date. The scores were:

SATURDAY’S EVENTS (From Our Own Correspondent) THAMES, To-day. The weather on Saturday was almost perfect for shooting, and at the weekly shoot of the Thames Gun Club some excellent shooting was witnessed. The principal event of the afternoon was the competition for the cup donated to the club by the Colonial Ammunition Company. In this event Dr. Tiggins, G. Shaw and W. Sparks shot the possible (10 birds), and in the shoot off Shaw won on the seventeenth bird after a keen contest. The results of the various sweepstakes are: No. 1 Shoot, 6 Birds.—S. Miller and G. j Thompson shot the possible and divided I the stakes. No. 2 Shoot, 7 Birds.—S. Sparkes and IS.
