ARTILLERY CAMP AT FORT CAUTLEY
PROGRAMME FOR WEEK The 13tli Coast Battery, New Zealand Artillery, which commenced a week’s camp at Fort Cautley, Devonport, to-day, holds a high position among the Auckland artillery units. One of the principal factors in preserving the high standard of efficiency is the Hudson Cup, which will be competed for this year. Instruction on all guns will be given and the culminating point of the training will be the firing at moving targets in the Rangitoto Channel. To-morrow afternoon will be the “At Home” when visitors will be taken all over the camp. It is expected that a band will be in attendance. The whole of the battery on Monday afternoon will witness the screening of the British war picture, “Mons,” which is included in the syllabus. The battery dance will be held in the Devonport Parish Hall on Wednesday evening, and if negotiations with the naval authorities a,re completed, a boxing tournament between boxers from the Royal Naval Reserve and the battery will be held on Frida v night.
Amusements in the form of billiards, wireless and the piano are provided by a branch of the Y.M.C.A., which will be permanently located in the camp. The officers at the camp are as follows: Camp commander. Captain J. M. Craig: adjutant and quartermaster. Captain C. J. Duff; medical officer. Captain J. J. Eade: camp regimental sergeant-major, R.S.M. Fieldsend; quartermaster-sergeant, Lance-Ser-geant Williamson.
