WEDDING GIFT

TO MISS MARY WYLLIE At the practice of St. John’s Presbyterian Church choir, Papatoetoe, on Thursday evening, a pleasing little ceremony was performed by the Rev. T. H. Roseveare, when he presented Miss Mary Wyllie with a beautiful cut crystal salad bowl and vase, on behalf of the members of the choir, in honour of her approaching marriage. The Rev. Mr. Roseveare, in making tho presentation, wished the recipient every happiness in her new sphere, also making mention of her good service to the church, she being one of the longest standing members of the choir.

In returning thanks. Miss Wyllie said that she would always be at the service of the choir, with which she had so long been associated, and thanked them all for their good wishes and beautiful gift.

Among the buttonholes —which are legion—the most chic are those of a sporting character, fashioned in felt and leather. These are de rigueur for the tailored suit. Poppies, roses and camellias are the floral favourites, and beige and brown, stone-colour and green, and two shades of pink are the most popular colours for afternoon flowerets. Colours have a somewhat faded and charmingly elusive hue, such as violet-pink, midnight and wedgewood blue, almond green and straw-berry-ice shade. Feminine afternoon frocks have come into their own again, and vie with the übiquitous little boyish sports suits that erstwhile were worn morning and afternoon. Gowns are both simple and exotic; one may take one’s choice. All kinds of lovely fabrics are used, with finely patterned crepe de chine and embossed silk georgette as first favourites. Beige georgette spotted with chenille in a darker shade materialised one of the most attractive little afternoon gowns in a recent collection.
