DIOCESAN GARDEN PARTY

FOUNDERS’ DAY SERVICE A charming’ service in commemoration of Founders’ Day took place in the Diocesan High School Hall yesterday afternoon, and was followed by a very successful garden party. A large number of guests and parents of both old and present girls were present at the function, and spent an enjoyable hour or so in strolling about the charming gardens that surround the school. The flower beds were gay with blooms, and were effectively offset by the green lawns and the background of shady trees, under which dainty little tables were arranged for the serving of afternoon tea. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Charles Fergusson and Lady Alice Fergusson, were present with a party from Government House, the Lady Alice wearing an attractive frock of black French crepe de chine under a smart coat of black satin carreau. With it she wore a black hat caught with a sparkling diamante ornament. Lady Augusta Inskip, sister of her Excellency, was wearing a becoming frock of Spanish raisin eharmeline, and over it a coat of black satin romaine, with an effective trimming of sable. Her hat was of black balibuntal. Miss Dugdale was present with the Vice-Rregal party, and wore a frock of black crepe de chine with a black taffetas coat trimmed with deep hem of ribbon ruching. Her hat was of fine black visca straw. Mrs. Averill wore a satin carreau frock of hydrangea toning, with a close fitting hat of blue trimmed with a floral wreath. x Miss Sandford was in a frock of ashes of roses crepe faille, with a feather-trimmed hat to match and a wrap of beech brown satin. Mrs. H. O. Nolan wore a frock of gold embroidered black crepe de chine and a black hat. Mrs. E. Horton was wearing an ensemble suit of prunelle crepella, with a hat of panne velvet to tone. Mrs. H. P. Ivissling wore a furtrimmed coat of black satin, and a black hat relieved with a feather cabouchon. Mrs. H. Gilfillan chose a gown of black crepe satin and georgette, ■worn with a black lace hat. Mrs. McWilliam was in a wrap coat of black satin marquise, with a black hat. During the afternoon a tennis match was in progress, in which a team of old girls played present girls. The old girls were Miss Averill, Miss Fraser, Miss Buckleton, Miss Anderson, Miss Taylor, and Miss J. O’Halloran, and the present girls Miss Ailsa Wilson. Miss Debra Mays, Miss J. Williams. Miss F. Colson, Miss B. Buddie and Miss G. Kingston. The match resulted in a win for the old girls.
