Summery Frocks Are Seen At The Races
Madam© was in joyous mood when she awoke this morning: and saw the sunshine that was really beaming for the first time upon a race day this season. Warm and bright and delightful . . . good! Out came her dainty frocks that had been saved for just such an occasion, to make their debut at the opening of the Thames race meeting, held in the attractive setting of the Ellerslie Racecourse. Georgettes and laces, taffetas and voiles, silks of the crepella and crepe d© chine and all the other crepe persuasions were to be seen all around the lawns, and refreshing things they were, after a season wherein we have all been bored to tears by having to look at and ■write about tailored suits without variety. Not th,at the sterner mode was entirely vanquished. Oh, dear, no! Milady is much too faithful to her love to cast the trim little tailleur into oblivion yet. For, after all, it is Auckland, ma cherie, and who knows what the weather may do? And so cautious ones came again in their tailored suits and coats. Red and green again were dead-heat in the colour stakes, with blues of every nuance running them very close. Many lace frocks appeared worn over slips of every pastel shade, and ofttimes with- a matching coat of georgette or georgette and lace. Hats were big or tiny, flowertrimmed or severely plain, and one woman wore the most coquettish of eye-veils that it has been our fortune to meet. Accessories became more lovely than ever, parasols, handbags, gloves and jewellery. . . oh, how the jewellery mode is being stressed. A delightful parasol had a massed trimming of huge chiffon flowers, and made a charming accompaniment to a flowered georgette frock. Spring was perhaps most typically represented by a frock of crisp organdie in a delicate leaf-green shade and extravagant transparency. This was worn with a pretty picture hat of rose pink crinoline trimmed with a floppy organdie flower. Among the many present were: Mrs. Wills McLaughlin, frock of Wedge-
