RUMANIAN RIDDLE
Princes and Politics
CONTENTION OVER CROWN
By Cable.—Press Assoeiatio)!.—Copyright. Received 10.41 a.m. LONDON. Thursday. FE Bucharest correspondent of “The Times” says that in Parliament the Prime Minister, M. Bratiano, referring to the arrest of the diplomat, M. Manoilescu, declared that the Government was doing its utmost to resist the attempts to overthrow the order that had been legally established.
4 DEPUTY, M. Maniu, protested against Manoilescu’s imprisonment and his trial by a military court instead of a civil court. Discussion of Prince Carol’s attitude might be inopportune at present; but the people had a right to express an opinion thereon. Parliament did not represent the nation, and the Prime Minister ought to resign an enable the dynastic question to be legally settled.
i M. Bratiano replied that Carol’s re- ' nunciation of the throne had been leg- ' alised by the constitution, which was . unalterable until King Michael reached s his majority. After that Prince Carol 1 could never occupy the throne by her- ; edity, hence attempts to secure his . return outside constitutional methods were prosecutable.—Times.
