DREDGE STRANDED

BUFFETED BY SURF CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS Press Association. GISBORNE, To-day. The Harbour Board’s dredge, John Townley, while endeavouring to pick up her moorings off Waikanae Beach was stranded. Attempts to refloat her so far are unavailing. The vessel is being buffeted in the surf, but has apparently suffered no injury. In attempting to salvage the stranded dredge the tug Pelican narrowly escaped stranding herself. A small launch came to her assistance in the surf opportunely. The launch nearly foundered when a comber caught her on a short-snubbed towline.
